Called to the Newfoundland & Labrador Bar in 2009, John has significant experience as General Counsel for a large group of companies within the Province, including unionized operations with over 900 employees. John oversaw all Labour Relations and was the lead negotiator for multiple Collective Agreements covering a diverse range of operations in the health care sector.
During all matters, John ensured that the common interests of the Employer, Employee, and Union were kept at the fore of discussions. His interest based approach to labour relations fostered a working environment where amicable resolution of disputes was the norm.
A Qualified Arbitrator, John is also a graduate of the Memorial School of Business (B.Comm, Finance, Hons.), UNB Law, and Queen's University (Adv. Executive Certificate). Prior to working in-house, John articled and was an associate at Atlantic Canada's largest law firm. John is a seasoned professional who is known for well reasoned solutions to complex problems.
John is the Chief Adjudicator of the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary Public Complaints Commission, Vice-Chair of the Newfoundland & Labrador Standing Fish Price-Setting Panel, a Member of the Law Society of Newfoundland & Labrador Disciplinary Panel, a former Member of the Provincial Court Judges' Salary & Benefits Tribunal, a former Member of the Newfoundland & Labrador Labour Relations Board, and a former Director of the Newfoundland & Labrador Employers' Council.
